Oppenlander Pinot Noir

From a mostly dry-farmed vineyard in Mendocino, fermented 1/3 whole cluster with native yeast, and aged in 20% new French oak, this is a restrained take on California Pinot Noir, with warm, ripe red fruits which are especially well-integrated into the earthy, smoky texture. An added spiciness comes from the oak, giving extra structure to the concentrated palate. This is a quite serious, subtly approachable wine.

Expressive and smoky, this medium bodied Syrah has good acidity and mellow tannins. Lower in alcohol than most, with balanced aromas of red cherry, black pepper and black tea. 100% whole clusters that were fermented with native yeast.

Alturas

Alturas

The Alturas is a wonderful wine, offering up a youthful but superb bouquet of violets, cracked pepper, grilled meat and crunchy cassis. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, concentrated and tensile, with fine-grained tannins, a deep core of crunchy fruit and a long, sapid finish. While this is already delicious, it’s emphatically a young wine, and the real fireworks will begin when it has five years on the clock. Cropped at 1.25-tons per acre and fermented with 50% whole clusters, this lovely Syrah from Halcón wouldn’t be out of place in a flight of great Cornas. It’s also shockingly good value.

Petite-Sirah

Esquisto

70% Grenache, 20% Mourvèdre, 10% Syrah, all co-fermented. Aged in puncheons, but no new oak – this is all about the purity of the fruit. From one of the highest vineyards in California, which, together with the naturally cooler climate of Mendocino, results in a particularly intense GSM blend: concentrated aromas of smoke, raspberry, blackberry, and cherry, lifted by perfumed aromas of wild flowers. Gripping tannins and vibrant acidity on the palate give lasting structure.

Petite Sirah

A deep, full bodied wine. Black cherry, black plum, black pepper, licorice and chocolate infuse the Petite with tons of complexity and nuance.
